Scholarship Details:
Outstanding international students who receive a recommendation from Asian Pacific University (APU) have the opportunity to be awarded this scholarship. The APU Graduate School provides a wide range of scholarship options available during the application period. To be eligible for this particular scholarship, applicants are required to apply to the university first. The university will then select qualified candidates to be recommended for consideration by the scholarship organization.
Scholarship Criteria:
To be eligible for the MEXT (UR) Scholarship for International Students, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
- Intend to study in Japan from a foreign country.
- Hold nationality from a MEXT designated country.
- Be born on or after April 2, 1989.
- Attain a minimum GPA of 2.30 on a 3.00 scale in their most recent university studies.

- Ineligible Categories:
- Individuals currently serving on active military duty or working as military civilians at the time of application are not eligible for this scholarship.
- Arrival Period:
- Recipients must be able to arrive in Japan during the specific arrival period set by APU.
- Prior MEXT Scholarship:
- Applicants who have previously received a MEXT scholarship are ineligible unless they possess more than 3 years of educational research experience after the final payment of the previous MEXT scholarship award.
- Concurrent MEXT Scholarship Application:
- Those applying for this scholarship cannot simultaneously apply for another MEXT scholarship.
- Other Scholarship Organizations:
- Recipients of this scholarship cannot receive funding from other scholarship organizations while studying at APU.
- Student Visa Status:
- Successful applicants must hold a “student” status of residence (visa status) in Japan.
- English Proficiency Test Score:
- The English Proficiency Test Score must be from an examination taken on or after March 23, 2022, to meet the validity period requirement.
