This prestigious program enables you to establish international connections and immerse yourself in transformative research experiences at world-renowned institutions abroad.

Fueling Your Global Ambitions

The CGS-MSFSS provides up to $6,000 in financial support for deserving CGS (master’s or doctoral) or eligible Vanier CGS holders. This funding helps offset costs related to conducting research outside of Canada for a duration ranging from two to six months.

Maximizing Your Research Journey

The CGS-MSFSS program promotes knowledge exchange and exploration through international research. Here are some key factors to keep in mind:

Duration

  • Minimum: 2 months
  • Maximum: 6 months

Start Date

  • Your research must begin after the application deadline and within one year of receiving the award notification.
  • Leaving Canada before the results are announced may lead to non-payment for unfunded applications.

Award Timeline

  • The supplement must begin before your CGS or Vanier CGS award ends and cannot be claimed during an award interruption.

Finding the Perfect Research Environment

The CGS-MSFSS opens doors to a wide range of research environments, including:

  • Foreign universities
  • Inter-university research centers
  • International or national research institutes or laboratories
  • Other institutions with a research mandate

Your host supervisor, who should be a full-time researcher affiliated with the host institution, plays a key role in guiding your research.
