DAAD – MUBAS Scholarships

The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), School of Science and Technology, is thrilled to announce the opening of applications for the Master of Science in Environmental Health Programme, scheduled to commence in September 2025. This prestigious program offers a limited number of scholarships funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) through its In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme. Sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), these scholarships are intended for university staff and public sector professionals seeking advanced academic training.

Degree Level

The DAAD – MUBAS Scholarship 2025 (Fully Funded) is available for Master’s level programs at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS).

Available Subjects

The MSc in Environmental Health is designed to provide students with comprehensive skills through two main phases: coursework and a dissertation.

Coursework Phase

During the coursework phase, students will engage in 10 core modules covering essential topics in environmental and public health, including:

  1. Epidemiology and Biostatistics
  2. Environmental Pollution Control
  3. Food Safety and Hygiene
  4. Health Communication and Behaviour Change
  5. Global Health
  6. Occupational Safety and Health
  7. Health Project Management
  8. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
  9. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in Environmental Health Practice

After completing the coursework, students will conduct a research project that culminates in a dissertation. This program is structured for full-time study over four semesters, equating to a duration of two years.

Benefits

The DAAD scholarship provides several benefits for eligible students:

1. Tuition Fees

  • Annual Coverage: Tuition fees will be paid annually, with the specific amount detailed in the Letter of Award.

2. Study and Research Allowance

  • Annual Amount: €460, allocated each year.

3. Thesis Publishing Costs

  • One-Time Funding: €400 provided once towards the end of the scholarship period.

4. Monthly Scholarship

  • In-Country Students: €300 per month for accommodation, food, and other living expenses.
  • In-Region Students: €400 per month for accommodation, food, and other living expenses.

5. Travel Allowance (In-Region Only)

  • Flat Rate: Typically provided twice (at the beginning and end of the scholarship), with the amount specified in the Letter of Award.

6. Health Insurance (In-Region Only)

  • Annual Coverage: Health insurance costs will be covered annually.

Eligible Nationalities

This fully funded scholarship is open to both domestic and international students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the DAAD – MUBAS Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Academic Background:
    • Hold a bachelor’s degree with above-average academic performance (Credit, Distinction, or a GPA of 2.5 or above).
    • Degree must be from a recognized institution in one of the following fields:
      • Environmental Health
      • Public Health
      • Related disciplines.
  • Degree Timeline: The degree must have been awarded within the last six years.
  • Encouragement for Diversity: Female and underprivileged candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

To apply for the DAAD – MUBAS scholarship, candidates must complete the application process via the DAAD portal by November 21, 2024. The application process involves creating an account, registering, and submitting the required documents online.

Important Note:

While applying for the DAAD scholarship, candidates must also apply for admission to the MSc in Environmental Health at MUBAS. The university’s call for applications will be released soon.
