The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a political foundation rooted in Christian democratic values, dedicated to promoting democracy, the rule of law, human rights, and market-economic structures worldwide. KAS offers scholarships for international students and graduates, enabling them to study and research at universities in Germany. This initiative fosters intercultural dialogue, international networking, and the global exchange of ideas in academia.

Scholarship Details: KAS awards scholarships for postgraduate, master’s, doctoral studies, and research stays of at least four semesters at German universities. They seek individuals who:

  • Hold a university degree (Bachelor’s degree holders are not eligible).
  • Demonstrate above-average academic performance.
  • Possess a solid knowledge of the German language (B2 level).
  • Are actively involved in voluntary work.
  • Plan to study in Germany for at least four semesters.
  • Have a strong interest in political issues, democracy, and human rights.
  • Are motivated to contribute to the development of their home country’s relations with Germany after completing their studies.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must have a university degree (Bachelor’s degree holders are not supported).
  • A demonstrated interest in political issues and an active commitment to democratic values.
  • Applicants should possess a broad general education and be highly motivated.
  • Good knowledge of German (B2 level) is required.
  • A positive attitude towards democracy, human rights, and tolerance is essential.

Special Conditions:

  • Students in medicine or pharmacy can only apply once they have completed an intermediate exam in Germany or have reached a similar stage in their studies.
  • Those already holding a doctorate are ineligible.

Benefits:

  • Financial Support:
    • Master’s/Postgraduate students: €934 per month (for two years).
    • PhD students: €1,400 per month (for three years).
    • Health insurance: Up to €120 per month.
    • Family allowance: €276 per month if your spouse resides with you in Germany.
    • Children’s allowance: €194 per month if you have children living with you in Germany.
    • Research abroad funding for PhD students.
    • Course fees directly related to studies can be refunded up to €1,500 per semester.
  • Mentoring & Seminars:
    • Personal guidance from KAS staff and university representatives.
    • Access to a rich seminar program (over 180 activities annually) covering various topics, including history, politics, economics, and social issues.
    • Training and coaching to help strengthen soft skills and ease the transition from studies to professional life.
    • Involvement in local university groups for better integration and community building.

Application Process: There are two ways to apply:

  1. International applicants: Apply through the KAS office in your region. Check the KAS website for specific instructions for each region.
  2. Applicants in Germany: Apply through the online portal for the domestic selection process. The application deadline is July 15th each year.

  • A detailed CV highlighting voluntary work.
  • Motivation letter.
  • Academic records and certificates (German translation required for non-English documents).
  • Proof of German language skills (B2 level).
  • Letters of recommendation (academic and personal).
