Two types of Scholarships are as follows.

  2. Promotion Scholarship (Doctoral)

Degree Level for Master’s

  • For German or Foreign Students studying in Germany:  Bachelor
  • European or Not Educated in Germany: Master’s Degree Only
  • Non-European or Students Not educated in Germany: Master’s Degree Only

No. of Scholarships

More than 1,000 scholarships will be offered to international students and German students from all over the world to study in Germany.

Scholarship Coverage:

  • Basic expenses covered for scholarship recipients
  • For Germans/International students educated in Germany and EU nationals/Students not educated in Germany:
    • Ph.D.: €1350 monthly stipend, €100 monthly research allowance
    • Undergraduate and Master: a maximum monthly stipend of €649, €300 book allowance
  • For Non-EU nationals/Students not educated in Germany:
    • Ph.D. students: €1,200 monthly stipend, €100 mobility allowance per month, plus individual allowances
    • Undergraduate and Graduate students: €85
  • Funding available for a research stay abroad:
    • Germans/International students studying in Germany and EU nationals/Students not educated in Germany: additional funding available for scholarship holders
    • Non-EU nationals/Students not studying in Germany: funding available for limited periods spent abroad
  • Funding for tuition fees:
    • Germans/International students studying in Germany and EU nationals/Students not educated in Germany: not possible in Germany, possible to a limited extent in other countries for Undergraduate, Graduate, and Ph.D. students
    • Non-EU nationals/Students not studied in Germany:
      • Ph.D. students: not possible
      • Bachelor and Master studies: funding is available for tuition fees but in certain cases only.

  • Reference from a university or college lecturer
  • Certified copy of the first-degree certificate (for foreign master’s degree applicants)

Eligibility Criteria:

Stages Involved in Applying for Heinrich Böll International Scholarships:

  • Submit admission forms online
  • Interview with a Liaison Lecturer (conducted via Skype or a similar platform)
  • Participation in a selection workshop in Berlin, which includes a one-to-one meeting and group discussion
  • No age limit for this opportunity.
