Recent Updates:
Applications for the 2024-25 scholarship are now open. Deadline for application submission is Jan. 4, 2024. The program for 2023-24 starts in September 2023. Congratulations to the incoming scholars! Program
Overview:
Our objective is to cultivate a diverse leadership pool in public health by supporting the education of underrepresented students dedicated to advancing health equity. The scholarship is funded through a grant from the Kaiser Permanente National Community Benefit Fund at the East Bay Community Foundation.
Scholarship Awards:
MPH Scholarship: Recipients receive a $15,000 tuition award annually for two years of full-time study. (Note: recipients attending Morehouse College in fall 2024 will receive a $7,500 tuition award each year for two years of full-time study.)
DrPH/PhD Scholarship: Recipients receive a $20,000 tuition award per year for three years. In the third and final year, the award can be provided as a stipend or a combination of stipend/tuition.
Scholarship Policies:
- Degree programs must commence in fall 2024.
- Applicable only to our nine partner universities (listed below).
- Supports core and elective courses for full-time graduate study; not for study abroad or courses outside the required coursework or award period.
- Recipients must maintain the academic requirements of the graduate program for the scholarship’s duration.
- The award covers tuition only; students are typically responsible for fees unless university policy states otherwise. (Doctoral students may receive the award as a stipend in their third year.)
- The award is stackable with other awards but not with tuition remission or waivers.
- The award must cover at least 80% of tuition when combined with another award. If it exceeds tuition costs, the excess amount is issued to the student by the university.
- Scholarship funds are paid directly to the partner university upon confirmation of the student’s commitment to attend.
