The Australia Awards Scholarships are long-term scholarships administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade aimed at contributing to the development needs of Australia’s partner countries. These scholarships provide opportunities for individuals from developing countries, particularly those located in the Indo-Pacific region, to pursue full-time undergraduate or postgraduate studies at selected Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions. Benefits of Australia Awards Scholarships:

The Australia Awards Scholarships provide a range of benefits for awardees, including:

Full tuition fees:

The scholarship covers the full tuition fees for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian higher education institution.

Return air travel:

A single return, economy class airfare is provided to and from Australia via the most direct route.

Establishment allowance:

A one-time payment is provided to contribute towards accommodation expenses, textbooks, and study materials.

Contribution to Living Expenses (CLE):

A fortnightly contribution to basic living expenses is paid at a rate determined by the department.

Introductory Academic Program (IAP):

A compulsory program is provided prior to the commencement of formal academic studies covering information on living and studying in Australia.

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC):

The scholarship provides coverage for the scholar’s basic medical costs (with the exception of pre-existing conditions) for the duration of the award.

Pre-course English (PCE) fees: If deemed necessary, PCE may be available for students for in-country and/or in-Australia training.

Supplementary academic support:

Eligible scholars may receive supplementary academic support to ensure academic success or enhance their academic experience.

Fieldwork:

Eligible research students may receive fieldwork support for one return economy class airfare via the most direct route to their country of citizenship or within Australia.

Award conditions:

To be eligible for an Australia Awards Scholarship, applicants must sign an agreement with the Commonwealth of Australia, pledging to follow the terms and conditions of the scholarship.

One of the key obligations of scholars is to depart from Australia for at least two years after they have completed their scholarship program. Failure to fulfill this obligation will result in the scholar being liable for the entire cost of their scholarship.
