Bright Futures Scholarship Requirements 2025
The Bright Futures Scholarship 2025 Program is a merit-based financial aid initiative available to Florida high school graduates. It support students cover tuition costs at eligible postsecondary institutions within Florida. To qualify, students must meet specific academic, test score, and service hour requirements. Eligibility criteria for the three main award levels.
1. Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) Award
This is the highest level of the Bright Futures Scholarship and covers 100% of tuition and applicable fees at public colleges and universities in Florida. Private institutions receive a comparable amount.
Eligibility Requirements:
GPA: Minimum 3.5 weighted GPA in core high school courses
SAT/ACT Score: Minimum 1340 SAT or 29 ACT
Service Hours: At least 100 hours of documented community service
High School Coursework: Must complete required college-preparatory courses as per Florida’s graduation requirements
2. Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS) Award
This award covers 75% of tuition and applicable fees at public institutions and an equivalent amount at private institutions.
Eligibility Requirements:
GPA: Minimum 3.0 weighted GPA in core high school courses
SAT/ACT Score: Minimum 1210 SAT or 25 ACT
Service Hours: At least 75 hours of documented community service
High School Coursework: Must meet Florida’s college-preparatory curriculum requirements
3. Gold Seal Vocational Scholars (GSV) Award
This award is designed for students pursuing a career or technical education program and covers a specified amount per credit hour at a Florida public institution.
Eligibility Requirements:
GPA: Minimum 3.0 weighted GPA in non-elective high school courses
SAT/ACT/PERT Score: Meet minimum scores required for vocational programs (e.g., 440 SAT Reading, 17 ACT English, or 106 PERT Reading)
Service Hours: At least 30 hours of documented community service
Technical Education Courses: Must complete three full credits in a single career and technical education (CTE) program
Application Process
- Complete the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) – Must be submitted by August 31st following high school graduation.
- Submit SAT/ACT Scores – Scores must be sent to the Florida Department of Education.
- Ensure Community Service Hours Are Documented – Verification should be submitted to the school district.
- Maintain Academic Standing – Recipients must meet renewal criteria to continue receiving funding.
Maintaining Eligibility
- Once awarded, students must maintain a certain GPA and credit hour requirement each academic year to renew the scholarship.
- FAS: Maintain a 3.0 GPA in college coursework
- FMS/GSV: Maintain a 2.75 GPA
- Earn the required number of credit hours based on enrollment status
