The British Society for the Philosophy of Science (BSPS) is offering a fully funded PhD scholarship for students pursuing a Doctorate in Philosophy of Science at a UK university.
Application Deadline: 11:00 AM, Saturday, 29 March 2025
Eligible Countries: Open to all nationalities
Study Location: UK Universities
Degree Level: PhD in Philosophy of Science
Funding: Fully funded (with conditions for international students)
Scholarship Coverage:
- Full tuition fees (home student rate) for up to three years
- Living stipend at the current UKRI rate
- Research training support (if required)
- Partial funding adjustments if other funding sources are secured
International students may apply but must arrange additional funding for the difference between home and international tuition fees.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the BSPS Doctoral Scholarship 2025, applicants must:
- Be applying for a PhD program in Philosophy or Philosophy of Science at a UK university
- Confirm ineligibility for AHRC funding or disclose AHRC application status
- List any secured or pending funding applications
- If already admitted to a PhD program, provide proof of acceptance

How to Apply?
1. Applicant Submission
Submit a single PDF document named LASTNAME-Firstname.pdf containing:
- CV (maximum two pages)
- Research Proposal (up to 1,500 words)
- Transcript of the most recent relevant degree
- Eligibility Statement (AHRC funding status + secured/pending funding applications)
- Proof of Admission, if already accepted into a PhD program
2. Supervisor Submission
The proposed PhD supervisor must submit a brief statement (maximum 500 words) explaining:
- Why they support the applicant’s research
- Why their institution is a suitable fit
3. References
- Two academic referees (excluding the proposed supervisor) must send reference letters directly to the BSPS Honorary Secretary.
