The scholarship is open to all subjects offered under the following divisions at the University of Kent:

  • Kent Law School

  • School of Arts and Architecture

  • School of Humanities

  • School of Psychology

  • The Language Centre

  • School of Social Sciences

  • Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (within the School of Natural Sciences)

Scholarship Benefits

Successful applicants will receive:

  • Up to £10,000 (for tuition, research expenses, or travel)

  • Funding for a research stay in the USA (up to 1 year)

  • Opportunity to reapply for a second year of funding (in exceptional cases)

  • One-on-one academic support

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Have an excellent academic track record:

    • Bachelor’s degree with First Class or Upper Second-Class (2:1), OR

    • Master’s degree with Merit or Distinction

  • Be a current student or hold a confirmed offer at the University of Kent

  • Be enrolled in one of the eligible academic divisions

  • Demonstrate:

    • Strong communication skills

    • Ability to present their research to non-specialist audiences

    • Clear relevance and impact of their research project

    • Enthusiasm and commitment to act as an academic ambassador

Who Should Apply?

This scholarship is ideal for postgraduate students whose research:

  • Has a significant American component

  • Requires fieldwork, archival research, or expert consultation in the U.S.

  • Involves transatlantic academic collaboration

Note: Preference will be given to students who have not previously spent extended time in the USA.

All applications must be submitted via the Kent Vision Portal. Ensure the following documents are included:

  • Research Proposal (~2,000 words)

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • Cover Letter

    • Motivation for applying

    • Names and contact details of two referees

    • Proposed budget plan

  • Two Academic References

    • On official letterhead

    • Addressing academic merit and research potential

    • Must be sent via email directly (if not uploaded)

All documents must be in PDF or Microsoft Word format. Links to Google Docs or SharePoint will not be accepted.

Selection Process

  • Application Deadline: 30 June 2025

  • Interviews: July 2025 (conducted via Microsoft Teams – exact date TBA)
