Max Planck Institute Doucet Scholarship 2026 in Germany (Fully Funded)
The Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory (MPI-LHLT) invites applications for the 8th Doucet Scholarship. This prestigious, fully funded research opportunity is open to international scholars—especially from Latin America—interested in colonial legal history.
Selected candidates will spend three months (January 5 – March 31, 2026) conducting research in Frankfurt, Germany, using the Doucet Collection—one of the world’s most important archives on the history of colonial law.

Successful applicants will receive the following:
Monthly stipend: €1,365
Travel reimbursement:
Up to €1,500 for transatlantic flights
Up to €750 for flights within Europe
Optional accommodation at the Institute’s residence:
Available for full months only
Approximate cost: €680/month
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
Be early-career researchers from outside Frankfurt (Latin American applicants are especially encouraged)
Be working on a project focused on colonial legal history
Use resources from the Doucet Collection
Commit to staying in Frankfurt for the full research period (January to March 2026)
