Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Committee has announced the availability of the Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Fund for Communities and Environmental Health applications. The scholarship is open to full-time graduate students or those whose research proposal is based in British Columbia. Eligible applicants include Canadians, Permanent Residents, and International students.

The Fraser Basin Council (FBC) is a charitable non-profit society founded in 1997. Its main aim is to encourage collaboration among four levels of government, namely federal, provincial, local, and First Nations. FBC plays a crucial role in supporting leaders in government, business, and community organizations by facilitating their efforts to find collaborative solutions to complex issues and promising opportunities.

The primary goal of this scholarship is to provide assistance to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in British Columbia (BC) as they strive to enhance air quality, environmental health, or environmental sustainability through research projects.

Scholarship Coverage:

On an annual basis, the Elizabeth Henry Scholarship is granted, and in 2023, the value of the award has been raised to $4,000.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The scholarship is open to all nationalities.
  • It is applicable for Master’s and Ph.D. programs focused on research projects related to environmental health and promoting sustainability through community initiatives.
  • To be eligible, applicants must be full-time graduate students who have completed at least one semester before being awarded the scholarship.
  • The research project must partner with Indigenous and/or non-Indigenous BC communities to address air quality and environmental health or sustainability.
  • The project must have clear objectives, research methodologies, and tangible outcomes that provide ethical benefits to the community.
  • Preference will be given to significant and innovative projects that directly engage and demonstrate strong community support.

Supporting Documents:

  • Two signed letters of reference on official letterhead, evaluating the candidate’s capabilities and the significance/feasibility of the research project.
  • The letters must come from an academic supervisor and an academic/employer/community partner reference, and be sent directly from the references by email.
  • Digital copies of undergraduate transcripts and graduate courses transcript (if applicable) are also required.
