Scholarship Benefits:
Recipients will receive funding to cover the entire cost of attendance not already met by other financial aid and the expected family contribution, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the methodology used by the recipient’s college or university. The cost of attendance encompasses tuition, fees, room and board, book expenses, transportation, and potentially other personal costs.

Eligibility Criteria:
Basic Eligibility:
- Must be a high school senior.
- Must belong to at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American*.
- Must be Pell-eligible.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident.
- Must maintain good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
- Planning to enroll full-time in a four-year degree program at a U.S. accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university. *For American Indian/Alaska Native, proof of tribal enrollment will be required.
Ideal Candidate:
- Demonstrates outstanding academic performance in high school (ranking in the top 10% of their graduating class).
- Exhibits leadership skills through involvement in community service, extracurricular activities, or other initiatives.
- Possesses exceptional personal qualities such as emotional maturity, motivation, perseverance, and more.
Application Procedure:
- Create an account: Starting July 1, 2024, applicants can create an account on the Gates Scholarship website: Gates Scholarship Website.
- Complete your myTGS profile: Provide information about your background, academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and future goals.
- Request letters of recommendation: Obtain two letters of recommendation, one from a teacher or counselor and one from another individual who can attest to your academic ability and leadership potential.
- Write your essays: Respond to three essay prompts:
- Personal Statement: Share your story and explain why you deserve the Gates Scholarship. (750 words)
- Leadership Essay: Describe a leadership experience you’ve had and its impact on you and others. (500 words)
- Gates Impact Essay: Outline how you plan to use your education to improve the lives of others in your community and beyond. (500 words)
- Submit your application: The application deadline is October 15, 2024. Ensure timely submission to avoid last-minute rush.
