The Future Leaders Fellowship 2025 at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) offers a fully funded, prestigious opportunity to contribute to impactful, interdisciplinary research while receiving world-class mentorship.

About the Fellowship

This fellowship is part of the Bridging Divides Program at TMU, designed to advance research on immigrant integration and digital technologies. Over the course of one year, selected fellows will:

  • Collaborate with senior mentors from TMU

  • Engage in structured research aligned with key thematic areas

  • Present findings at an international conference

  • Produce a peer-reviewed journal article

Thematic Research Groups

Fellows will work within one of four research areas:

  1. Immigrant Health and Wellbeing

  2. Employment and Lifelong Learning

  3. Place and Infrastructure

  4. Citizenship and Participation

Fellowship Details

  • Program Duration: 1 year

  • Start Date: September 2025 or January 2026

  • Location: Primarily remote (from your home institution), with an initial 5-day visit to TMU in Toronto

  • Mentorship: Ongoing support from an experienced TMU researcher

Fellowship Benefits

Successful applicants will receive up to $18,000 CAD, including:

  • $5,000 stipend (paid in two installments)

  • Travel costs for a 5-day visit to TMU in Toronto

  • Conference participation expenses (airfare, accommodation, meals, and registration)

  • Open Access publication fees for peer-reviewed articles

Eligibility Criteria

This opportunity is open to applicants of all nationalities. To qualify, you must:

  • Be a senior PhD candidate with a completed first draft of your dissertation, or

  • Be a postdoctoral scholar within five years of PhD completion

  • Be affiliated with a recognized academic institution

  • Have research interests at the intersection of migration and digital technologies (e.g., digital equity, civic technology, smart infrastructure, etc.)

  • 2-page Research Proposal (aligned with one of the Bridging Divides themes and naming a preferred TMU mentor)

  • 4-page Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • One academic or professional reference letter
