Eligible Nationalities:

This scholarship is open to international students of all nationalities, except Canadian citizens.

Eligibility Criteria:

The PBEEE scholarship is available to international students and researchers from any research field, with specific requirements for each scholarship type (Master’s, PhD, Postdoctoral, Short-Term Research). Here are the detailed criteria:

General Requirements:

  • Not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (and have not applied for permanent residence).
  • Not a previous recipient of the Quebec Merit Scholarship for Foreign Students (MEES).

Additional Requirements by Scholarship Type:

Master’s Research:

  • Enrolled in a research-based master’s program with a thesis (no essays or reports).
  • Completed no more than 3 semesters (1 year) of your master’s program by May 1, 2025.

Doctoral Research:

  • Within the first 9 semesters of your doctoral program (excluding any previously funded semesters).
  • Students entering a PhD directly from a bachelor’s program (without a master’s thesis) can apply for semesters 7-15 but may be eligible for a master’s research scholarship first.

Postdoctoral:

  • Received your PhD within the past two years or submitted your thesis by January 15, 2024.
  • Postdoctoral research must be conducted at a different institution than where you earned your PhD.

Short-Term Research/Development:

  • Option A: Technical or university student.
  • Option B: Researcher with a PhD completed within the past 5 years.
  • Short-term research must be conducted at a different institution than your current enrollment.

Exceptions:

  • Extensions may be granted for maternity/parental leave (up to 12 months) with proper justification.

Application Procedure:

Step 1: University Pre selection

Internal Deadline: July 15, 2024

Act Fast! Your application needs to reach your university department by July 15, 2024.

Contact Your Department:

  • Get in touch with the relevant department at your chosen Quebec university to initiate the application process. They will guide you through their specific requirements and procedures.

Prepare Your Documents: You’ll likely need to submit the following documents (check with your university for specifics):

  • Completed application form
  • Copy of your valid passport or citizenship documentation
  • Letter from your department director confirming your eligibility for the scholarship
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Recent official academic transcripts and diplomas
  • Proof of current enrollment (if applicable)

Step 2: FRQNT Final Selection

University Nomination:

  • If your university selects your application, they will forward it to the FRQNT by September 13, 2024.

FRQNT Review:

  • The FRQNT will review the preselected applications and invite shortlisted candidates to submit a final application.

Final Application (if invited):

  • If you’re chosen for the final round, the FRQNT will contact you with instructions on submitting the final application by November 1, 2024.

Selection Results:

  • Await the exciting news! FRQNT will announce the scholarship recipients in April 2025.
