The Gates Scholarship 2024 (TGS) is a distinguished last-dollar scholarship designed to identify and support outstanding minority high school seniors from low-income backgrounds. This highly selective scholarship recognizes student leaders committed to realizing their full potential and supports them on their academic journeys.

Degree Level:

The Gates Scholarship 2024-25 in the USA (Fully Funded) is available for undergraduate level programs at universities in the United States.

Available Subjects:

All subjects are eligible for study under this scholarship program.

Scholarship Benefits:

Scholars will receive funding covering the entire cost of attendance, including tuition, fees, room and board, book expenses, transportation, and possibly other personal costs not covered by existing financial aid. This support is determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the methodology used by the Scholar’s college or university.

Eligible Nationalities:

This scholarship is open to US citizens.

Eligibility Criteria:

Basic Eligibility:

  • Must be a high school senior.
  • From at least one of the following ethnicities: African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American*.
  • Must be Pell-eligible.
  • Should be a US citizen, national, or permanent resident.
  • Must maintain good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
  • Planning to enroll full-time in a four-year degree program at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private, or public college or university.
  • For American Indian/Alaska Native, proof of tribal enrollment will be required.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Boasts an outstanding academic record in high school (ranking in the top 10% of their graduating class).
  • Displays leadership ability through participation in community service, extracurricular activities, or other endeavors.
  • Possesses exceptional personal success skills such as emotional maturity, motivation, perseverance, and more.

Application Procedure:

  1. Create an Account: Starting July 1, 2024, create an account on the Gates Scholarship website.
  2. Complete your myTGS profile: Provide information about your background, academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and future goals.
  3. Request Letters of Recommendation: Obtain two letters of recommendation, one from a teacher or counselor and one from another individual who can speak to your academic ability and leadership potential.
  4. Write Your Essays:
    • Personal Statement (750 words): Tell your story and explain why you deserve the Gates Scholarship.
    • Leadership Essay (500 words): Describe a leadership experience and its impact.
    • Gates Impact Essay (500 words): Explain how you plan to use your education to improve lives in your community and beyond.
  5. Submit Your Application: The application deadline is October 15, 2024. Ensure you submit well before the deadline.
