Applications are now open for the prestigious Tobe Maki Foundation Scholarship 2025–2027—a fully funded, non-repayable opportunity for both domestic and international students studying at universities in Japan. This scholarship supports students at undergraduate and graduate levels and promotes excellence in various academic and research fields.
Scholarship Purpose
The Tobe Maki Foundation, based in Osaka, is committed to nurturing future leaders by providing financial assistance to talented, motivated students who:
Demonstrate academic excellence
Exhibit strong character and discipline
Face financial hardship in pursuing their education
Eligible Degree Levels
This scholarship supports students enrolled in:
Bachelor’s Degree programs (3rd year and above)
Master’s Degree programs
PhD (Doctoral) programs
Eligible Fields of Study
The scholarship is open to students pursuing research in the following fields:
Chemical Sciences
Food Science
Art and Design
Physical Education / Sports Science
Business Administration
(including public management, marketing, etc.)

Number of Awards:
Total: 60 Students
Japanese nationals or equivalents: ~55
International students: ~5
Monthly Stipend:
Graduate Students: ¥70,000/month (¥840,000/year)
Undergraduate Students: ¥60,000/month (¥720,000/year)
Duration: April 1, 2025 – March 31, 2027 (2 years)
May be extended up to 4 years for exceptional doctoral students.
Note: If you receive another scholarship of over ¥2,000,000/year, this scholarship amount may be reduced.
Who Can Apply?
Eligible Nationalities:
Open to all nationalities worldwide.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must:
Be enrolled at a Japanese university between April 1, 2025 – March 31, 2027
Be under 30 years old (as of April 1, 2025)*
Be in their 3rd year or higher (undergraduate), or pursuing master’s/doctoral studies
Conduct research within the eligible fields
Hold a “Student” visa (for international applicants)
Be self-funded (not receiving government scholarships)
Demonstrate academic excellence, good character, and financial need
*Exceptions may be made for valid circumstances.

Application Timeline:
Online Submission Deadline: May 8, 2025 (by 23:59 JST)
Postal Submission Deadline: Must arrive by May 12, 2025
Results Announcement: Early July 2025
Scholarship Begins: April 2025
Required Documents:
Completed scholarship application form (Word & Excel formats, in Japanese)
Letter of recommendation (from university president or department head)
Certificate of enrollment (valid from April 2025)
Academic transcripts (all years, with GPA)
Residence certificate (excluding My Number)
Recent photo (front-facing, no hat, taken within 3 months)
Important:
Both online submission and postal mailing of originals are required. Incomplete applications or those not following format guidelines will be disqualified.
