The University of Melbourne Human Rights Scholarship 2026 is now open for applications. This fully funded opportunity is available to both international and domestic students who aim to make a lasting impact through academic research in the field of human rights.
This prestigious scholarship supports students pursuing Master’s by Research or Doctoral (PhD) studies at the University of Melbourne.

Scholarship Benefits
Recipients will receive a comprehensive funding package that includes:
Living Allowance: AUD $43,500 per year (pro rata for part-time), indexed annually
Full Tuition Fee Offset:
Up to 2 years for Master’s
Up to 4 years for PhD
Relocation Grant:
AUD $2,000 for students from other Australian states
AUD $3,000 for international students
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC): For international students (single membership)

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the scholarship, you must:
Be applying for or currently enrolled in a Master by Research or PhD program at the University of Melbourne
Be conducting research that is directly related to human rights
Show a strong commitment to human rights advocacy, demonstrated through academic, voluntary, or professional work
Not have completed a comparable research qualification previously
Not have received a graduate research scholarship from the University before
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
Academic performance and research potential
Demonstrated dedication to the promotion of human rights beyond academic work
Relevance and clarity of the personal statement
Quality of supporting documents, including references and previous achievements
