The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) offers the prestigious Presidential Scholarship to exceptional incoming freshmen who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements. This scholarship awards recipients $10,000 annually, totaling up to $40,000 over four years of eligibility.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Every incoming freshman undergoes a comprehensive review by UTA’s Scholarship Committee. The selection process considers various academic factors, including:
- High school class rank and GPA
- SAT or ACT test scores (submission required)
- Rigor of high school coursework
This scholarship also includes a non-resident tuition waiver for out-of-state recipients, enabling them to pay in-state tuition rates for up to four years, provided they maintain good academic standing.
Scholarship Renewal Requirements
To retain the Presidential Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria annually:
- Full-Time Enrollment: A minimum of 12 UTA credit hours per fall and spring semester is required.
- Credit Hour Progress: Freshmen must complete:
- 30 credit hours by the first renewal
- 60 credit hours by the second renewal
- 90 credit hours by the third renewal
Dual Credit and AP credits earned in high school count toward this requirement.
- Cumulative GPA: Maintain a minimum UTA GPA of 3.00.
The academic year for renewal purposes runs from fall through summer. Students who fail to meet the requirements by the end of spring may enroll in summer courses to remain eligible.
Note: Scholarships apply exclusively to students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree in a for-credit, degree-seeking program.
