The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship for the academic year 2024-2025 is an inclusive master’s scholarship tailored for international students. A total of 25 scholarships are available, covering full tuition expenses and providing a generous living stipend of £11,000.

For the academic year 2024-2025, 20-25 scholarships will be awarded across Utrecht University’s 6 Graduate Schools. Funding for these scholarships is derived from the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship Fund, established by the university itself, along with contributions from Utrecht University alumni.

Scholarship Benefits:
The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship can be granted in two forms:
- Covering the tuition fee.
- Covering the tuition fee plus the income required for a one-year period linked to a residence permit for study, as determined by the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND).
Additionally, the scholarship is eligible for renewal for the second year for those enrolled in two-year master’s programs.
Eligible Nationalities:
This scholarship is available to international students from Non-EU/EEA countries.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship, candidates must meet the following conditions:
- Belong to the top 10% of your graduating class.
- Hold a non-EU/EEA passport and be ineligible for support under the Dutch study grant and loan system.
- Have completed your secondary school and/or bachelor’s degree outside the Netherlands.
- Have applied for an international master’s program scheduled to commence on September 1, 2024. Note that not all programs participate, so applicants should check the Master’s program > Tuition fees and financial support section to confirm if the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship is listed as an opportunity.
Application Procedure:
Deadline: Interested students must submit their applications before February 1st, 23:59 CET. The application portal will close at this time, and the selection process will commence afterward. Results are expected to be published by mid-April.
Selection Criteria:
Eligible candidates will be chosen for the scholarship based on the following criteria:
- Academic quality and promise in the proposed field of study, as demonstrated through the master’s application.
- Academic excellence, supported by evidence of being in the top 10% of the graduating class (class ranking certificate, GPA with grade distribution summary, or a signed and stamped statement/reference letter from the university).
- The quality and relevance of the motivation letter for the master’s program, considering academic content, intercultural and communication skills, and personal motivation.
- The overall quality of the application for the master’s program, including completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
How to Apply:
After submitting application(s) for a UES eligible master’s program before the specified deadline, non-EU/EEA students can apply for one Utrecht Excellence Scholarship from November 1, 2023. The UES application(s) will be visible in your OSIRIS Online Application account dashboard. Click on ‘view/edit’ for the UES linked to the program you’re applying for, upload the required proof of being in the top 10% of your class, answer the provided questions, and submit the application.
