The British Council, in collaboration with Scotland SGSAH, is excited to unveil the initiation of the application process for the British Council Scotland SGSAH Earth Scholarships 2024. These scholarships are designed to foster international research collaborations between PhD and Early Career Researchers and Scottish Institutions.

This program has a specific focus on advancing the contributions made by the environmental arts and humanities, as well as the arts and cultural sector, in tackling the urgent issue of climate change. It also aims to harness their potential for conducting interdisciplinary research that spans across the domains of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).

Scholarship Details:

This scholarship initiative aims to create research opportunities and facilitate international mobility, fostering the development of innovative approaches to tackle the global climate crisis. Additionally, it seeks to promote sustainable research practices and encourage cultural exchanges within and beyond the realms of the arts, humanities, and cultural sectors.

The program will grant scholarships to PhD and Early Career Researchers from outside the UK, enabling them to engage in in-person and hybrid research exchanges in Scotland lasting up to three months in 2024. These exchanges will primarily focus on the field of environmental arts and humanities. As part of this initiative, a two-week core leadership program will be conducted in person in April 2024, bringing together all scholarship recipients and Scotland-based scholars. This program will facilitate networking and collaboration, supported by a series of thematic and geographically oriented Clusters.

Eligibility Criteria:

In order to qualify for the British Council Scotland SGSAH Earth Scholarships 2024, candidates are required to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Applicants should be PhD and early career researchers who have either registered or graduated from a non-UK university. They should be actively engaged in research related to the environmental arts and humanities and have the intention to collaborate with an academic mentor in Scotland. This collaboration should involve accessing the networks and resources provided by a host higher education institution.
  2. A demonstrated track record of outstanding academic and research capabilities is essential.
  3. Early career researchers should be within one year of receiving notification of the award of their PhD.

How to Apply:

Prospective candidates for the British Council SGSAH Earth Scholarship should follow these steps to apply:

  1. Complete an online application through SGSAH’s web-based system.
  2. Provide the following documents as part of your application:
    • A comprehensive research proposal.
    • Explanation of how you intend to derive benefits from Cluster membership, cohort-building, training, and development activities.
    • A detailed budget along with a justification for the requested resources.
    • A curriculum vitae (CV) limited to four pages.
    • A letter of support from your PhD supervisor (up to two pages).
    • A letter of support from the proposed Host Institution, signed by the Head of Department or equivalent (up to two pages).
