Here are the eligibility criteria for the Government of Japan ADB Scholarship:

  1. Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens of an ADB borrowing member country and also qualify for the Japanese ODA scholarship.
  2. Dual Citizenship: Holding dual citizenship in any developed country is not permissible.
  3. Admission: Candidates need to secure admission to an approved master’s program at a Designated Institution.
  4. Educational Qualification: Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with an outstanding academic performance.
  5. Professional Experience: A minimum of two years of full-time professional work experience post obtaining a university degree is required at the time of application. Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills is essential for successful academic pursuits.
  6. Age Limit: Candidates should not exceed 35 years at the time of application, except in special cases endorsed by the Government of Japan.
  7. Health and Commitment: Applicants must be in good health and commit to returning to and working in their home country for a minimum of two years following completion of the program to contribute to its development.
  8. Relationship and Employment: Candidates must not hold positions or be closely related by blood or adoption (spouse, parent, sibling, child, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew) to Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management, staff, or consultants of ADB. They should also not be staff at ADB–JSP Designated Institutions or be residing or employed in a country other than their home nation. Additionally, they should not already be enrolled in graduate degree programs.

Here’s the application procedure for the Government of Japan ADB Scholarship:

  1. Request information and application forms from your chosen partner institution.
  2. Complete the required application documents, including the ADB-JSP information sheet.
  3. Send the completed documents to the institution.
  4. The institution evaluates and decides on admission and applicants.
  5. The institution submits a shortlist of candidates to ADB.
  6. ADB reviews the submissions from institutions.
  7. ADB recommends awardees to the Japanese executive director for approval, based on selection criteria.
  8. ADB selects scholars and notifies the institution.
  9. The institution informs all scholars about their status.
