Embassy of France/Ghana Joint Scholarships for Masters and PhD Studies in 2023/24

The Scholarships Secretariat and the French Embassy in Ghana have collaboratively introduced scholarships for Ghanaian students who intend to pursue master’s or PhD studies in France.

The Scholarships Secretariat and the French Embassy in Ghana are partnering to provide fully-funded scholarships for Ghanaians who wish to pursue postgraduate studies in France during the 2023/24 academic year. These scholarships are designed to assist exceptional Ghanaian students with strong academic backgrounds in advancing their education.

The Embassy of France/Ghana Joint Scholarships is a program designed to offer financial support to Ghanaian students who intend to undertake postgraduate studies in France, specifically at the Master’s or PhD level. This scholarship program covers the entirety of the expenses involved in tuition, accommodation, and living costs for the students.

If you want to be considered for the Embassy of France/Ghana Joint Scholarships, you need to meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a citizen of Ghana.
  2. Age limit:
    • 35 years for Master’s degree applicants.
    • 40 years for joint PhD applicants.
    • 45 years for ScholSec PhD applicants.
  3. Have a Bachelor’s degree if you’re applying for a Master’s degree program, or a 2-year Master’s degree or MPhil degree if you’re applying for a PhD program.
  4. Be interested in studying in one of the following fields: French as a foreign language, STEM, Health, Environment and Sustainable Development, Tourism, Archaeology and Heritage studies, Agriculture and Food Industry.
  5. First Class or Second Class Upper degree holders will be given priority consideration.
  6. French proficiency is not necessary for the application process, except for French as a Foreign Language program.
  7. If you’re applying for a PhD program, it’s preferable to have at least 2 years of post-qualification experience.
  8. You must have completed National Service.

Application Process

To be considered for the Embassy of France/Ghana Joint Scholarships, prospective applicants need to adhere to the following application procedures:

  • Submit their application file in both electronic and hard copy versions on or before the application deadline.
  • Email the electronic copy of their application to [email protected]. In the email subject line, include the applicant’s first and last name.
  • Mail the hard copy of their application to both the Cooperation and Cultural Affairs Department (SCAC) at the French Embassy in Ghana and the Scholarships Secretariat.

Required Documents:

To complete their application, applicants are required to provide the following documents:

  • A copy of their birth certificate
  • Completed application form
  • A cover letter of no more than one page, outlining the student’s motivation and explaining how the desired course will support their career development
  • A reference letter from the applicant’s university
  • An academic file that includes copies of full academic transcripts and degrees
  • Proof of registration or pre-registration with a French university for a Master’s degree or a PhD
  • For PhD applicants, a research topic and an acceptance letter from their PhD supervisor in France should be attached
  • A detailed Curriculum Vitae
  • Documents describing the financial situation of the applicant, such as a certificate of scholarship for studies in progress, pay slips, or bank statements of the student or their parents.
