In April 1988, the Japanese government provided funding to establish the Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP). The program’s goal is to offer highly qualified individuals from developing member countries of the ADB the chance to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science, technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. Scholarship recipients are expected to contribute to their home countries’ economic and social development after finishing their studies.

  • Health and medical insurance coverage in New Zealand for the duration of the program.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the ADB-Japan Scholarship Program 2023-24 at the University of Auckland, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a national of an ADB borrowing member country. The list of current developing member countries can be found on the ADB – Japan Scholarship Programme website.
  • Have gained admission to an approved postgraduate program at the University of Auckland.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with a superior academic record.
  • Have at least two years of full-time professional work experience (acquired after completing a university degree) at the time of application.
  • Possess proficient oral and written communication skills in English to be able to pursue studies.
  • Be under the age of 35 at the time of application. In exceptional cases, for programs which are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years.
  • Be in good health.
  • Agree to return to their home country after completing the program and use the skills and knowledge acquired to contribute to their country’s economic and social development.

Application Procedure:

To apply for the ADB-Japan Scholarship Program 2023-24 at the University of Auckland, you must follow the below steps:

  1. Fill out the ADB-JSP Information Sheet and ADB-JSP Application Form completely.
  2. Include a copy of your offer letter from the University of Auckland.
  3. Submit your academic documentation, including academic transcripts and degree certificates.
  4. Provide a Certificate of Employment issued by your company for the duration of your employment.
  5. Submit a Certificate of Income issued by your company.
  6. Provide a Certificate of Family Income issued by your company. This must be either your parents’ or spouse’s annual/monthly income.
  7. Include a copy of your passport.
  8. Submit a valid IELTS test.
