ADB-Japan Scholarship Program:
In April 1988, the Japanese government provided funding to establish the Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP). The program’s goal is to offer highly qualified individuals from developing member countries of the ADB the chance to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science, technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. Scholarship recipients are expected to contribute to their home countries’ economic and social development after finishing their studies.

- A round-trip airfare from the scholar’s home country to Auckland, New Zealand, at the start of the program and from Auckland, New Zealand, to the scholar’s home country at the end of the program.
- A monthly allowance to cover the basic cost of living in Auckland, which includes accommodation, meals, and other expenses.
- Health and medical insurance coverage in New Zealand for the duration of the program.
- A special grant may be available for thesis preparation for scholars engaged in research.

Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the ADB-Japan Scholarship Program 2023-24 at the University of Auckland, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a national of an ADB borrowing member country. The list of current developing member countries can be found on the ADB – Japan Scholarship Programme website.
- Have gained admission to an approved postgraduate program at the University of Auckland.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with a superior academic record.
- Have at least two years of full-time professional work experience (acquired after completing a university degree) at the time of application.
- Possess proficient oral and written communication skills in English to be able to pursue studies.
- Be under the age of 35 at the time of application. In exceptional cases, for programs which are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years.
- Be in good health.
- Agree to return to their home country after completing the program and use the skills and knowledge acquired to contribute to their country’s economic and social development.
Application Procedure:
To apply for the ADB-Japan Scholarship Program 2023-24 at the University of Auckland, you must follow the below steps:
- Fill out the ADB-JSP Information Sheet and ADB-JSP Application Form completely.
- Include a copy of your offer letter from the University of Auckland.
- Submit your academic documentation, including academic transcripts and degree certificates.
- Provide a Certificate of Employment issued by your company for the duration of your employment.
- Submit a Certificate of Income issued by your company.
- Provide a Certificate of Family Income issued by your company. This must be either your parents’ or spouse’s annual/monthly income.
- Include a copy of your passport.
- Submit a valid IELTS test.
