The American University of Beirut and the Mastercard Foundation offer full scholarships for international students for the academic year 2023-2024. The program provides scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students with limited financial capacity, who are proactive in their environment, and who want to make a difference in their communities.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at AUB prepares young people to be agents of change in their communities, countries, and regions. The program requires scholars to attend workshops, courses, and field work, in addition to their degree requirements. The scholarship is open to international students pursuing graduate degrees at AUB in Lebanon.


The American University of Beirut (AUB) offers scholarships to international students who wish to pursue undergraduate or graduate programs in Beirut, Lebanon. The scholarships are designed to support academically talented students who are financially challenged but have the potential to create a positive impact in their communities.

AUB’s scholarship program provides full financial assistance, covering tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses for the duration of the study program. The duration of the scholarship varies depending on the student’s chosen undergraduate or graduate program.

Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify for AUB’s Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, it is important to take note of the following requirements:

  • Proficiency in English is a must.
  • The program is open to individuals from the following countries: Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Djibouti, Mauritania, Comoros, and other African countries.
  • Graduate scholarships are available to citizens of Africa, Lebanon, as well as refugees and displaced individuals residing in Lebanon.
  • Selection and acceptance into the program are based on several factors including academic potential, financial need, leadership abilities, and a commitment to giving back to one’s community.
  • Applicants are required to submit official university transcripts for all levels, complete the graduate application online, and provide two recommendation letters.
  • IELTS or TOEFL scores are mandatory. GMAT is required for the MBA program while GRE is necessary for some majors under the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
  • A non-refundable application fee of $50 or L.L.75,000 is also required.

How to Apply:

To apply for AUB’s Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, please follow the steps below:

  1. Create an account and complete the AUB Online Graduate Application Form. This form is available on the AUB website and can be accessed once you have created an account.
  2. Make sure to upload all the necessary supporting documents as indicated on the online application. These documents may include official university transcripts for all levels, two recommendation letters, and scores for standardized tests such as the IELTS or TOEFL, as well as the GMAT or GRE for specific programs.
  3. Ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements for the program, which include proficiency in English, citizenship or residency in one of the eligible countries (Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Djibouti, Mauritania, Comoros, and other African countries), and a commitment to giving back to your community.
  4. The selection process for the program is highly competitive and based on academic promise, financial need, leadership potential, and a demonstrated commitment to community service. Make sure to highlight your strengths in these areas in your application.
  5. Finally, there is a non-refundable application fee of $50 or L.L.75,000 that must be paid in order for your application to be considered.
