Fellowship Details:

Queen’s University Belfast aims to attract, develop, and support exceptional researchers who will lead world-class research and become future research leaders. The university is particularly interested in applications from researchers who specialize in the following research areas across their Faculties:

Medicine, Health, and Life Sciences:

  • Use of data/advanced technologies and platforms in healthcare to address societal issues
  • Multidisciplinary approaches and/or patient-based investigations in areas such as cancer, eye disease, inflammation of lung and lung regeneration, with emphasis on immunology, molecular/cellular biology or microbiology, including how pathogens become established and proliferate
  • Public health, complexity science, health systems and policy research, public health modeling, behavior change, implementation science, planetary health, epidemiology, and data science
  • Maternal and Child Health, Chronic Illness, Palliative Care, Education, and Practice
  • Pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy practice or clinical pharmacy across the areas of drug delivery, biomaterials, advanced manufacture, drug targeting, biosensors, pharmaceutical microbiology and microbiomics, respiratory medicine, primary and secondary care
  • Understanding Health and Disease, Transforming Agri-food Systems, or Sustaining Ecosystems and Biodiversity

Engineering and Physical Sciences:

  • Chemistry and Chemical Engineering: Net Zero Engineering with emphasis on clean energy including batteries, fuel cells, hydrogen systems, and closely related areas and circular economy
  • Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering: Digital twins, cyber-physical systems, VR/AR for engineering/manufacturing system design
  • Electronics, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science: Electronics for a sustainable society or Sustainable materials and Electronic Systems, including topics spanning materials, flexible electronics, sensors, and power electronics
  • Natural and Built Environment: Civil activities in The Intelligent and Sustainable Infrastructure Group or The Water and Energy Resources Group
  • Psychology: Behavior change, decision-making, and intervention.

Eligibility Criteria:

In order to qualify for the Queen’s University Belfast Vice Chancellor’s Illuminate Fellowship, applicants are required to fulfill the following criteria:

  • Possess a completed PhD in a relevant field
  • Have 2-8 years of post-PhD experience
  • Demonstrate a strong record of high-quality publications
  • Develop a research profile and plan that aligns with an existing research strength at Queen’s University Belfast.

Fellowship Benefits:
