The aim of the Generation Google Scholarship for women in computer science is to support female students who are pursuing computer science degrees to achieve excellence in technology and emerge as leaders in the field. The scholarship will provide selected students with a 7,000 EUR award (or the equivalent amount in their local currency) for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The scholarship program will assess the candidates’ commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as their leadership skills and academic performance, to determine the recipients. Therefore, the scholarship will be granted to women who have demonstrated a strong dedication to creating a more inclusive and diverse technological landscape, alongside academic excellence and leadership potential.

About Scholarship:

Students who fulfill the minimum qualifications are eligible to apply for the program, and we strongly urge women who have an interest in computer science to apply. However, candidates who have previously received any of the following scholarships will not be eligible to reapply: Generation Google Scholarship, Generation Google Scholarship: for women in gaming, Generation Google Scholarship: for women in computer science in Ireland, Generation Google Scholarship: for supply chain and fulfillment, Google Lime Scholarship, Google Student Veterans of America Scholarship, Women Techmakers Scholarship for Computer Science, Women Techmakers Scholarship for Gaming, Google Europe Students with Disabilities Scholarship, or Venkat Panchapakesan Scholarships India.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Generation Google Scholarship for women in computer science, candidates must:

  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelors program at an accredited university or college for the 2022-2023 academic year
  • Intend to be enrolled in or accepted as a full-time student in a Bachelors program at an accredited university in Europe, Middle East, or Africa for the 2023-2024 academic year
  • Be pursuing a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field
  • Have a strong academic track record
  • Demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to improving representation of underrepresented groups in computer science and technology.

How to Apply:

The online application for the Generation Google Scholarship for women in computer science will require candidates to provide the following:

  • General background information, such as contact details and details about their current and intended universities.
  • A resume/CV outlining their education, work experience, and achievements.
  • Academic transcripts from their current institution to showcase their academic performance.
  • Responses to short-answer essay questions that will help the scholarship committee understand the candidate’s leadership potential, commitment to diversity and inclusion, and passion for technology.

Essay Questions:

The scholarship application requires candidates to respond to two short answer essay questions. Here are the prompts:

  1. Describe a complex problem you faced without a clear solution, and explain the steps you took to reach a resolution. In your response, discuss the resources and solutions you considered, and share any lessons learned from the experience. This problem could have occurred in any area of your life, such as school, work, extracurricular activities, or home.
  2. Based on your personal experience, identify a barrier that hinders equitable access to the technology field. What do you believe is the root cause of this issue? Share any actions you have taken or plan to take to address this inequality. In your response, focus at least half of your discussion on the actions you have already taken. Keep in mind that the impact can be achieved in various ways and at different scales.

To complete the application for the Generation Google Scholarship for women in computer science, candidates must provide the following documents in PDF format:

  • A copy of their resume, which should include details of their leadership positions, extracurricular activities, and any efforts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • A copy of their current or most recent academic transcript. An unofficial transcript is acceptable for this purpose.

Application Deadline:

The last date to apply for this scholarship is 16 May 2023 or when 3,000 eligible application responses are received.

Terms and conditions: 

The Generation Google Scholarship: for women in computer science is available to eligible students who meet the criteria for the award. Women with an interest in computer science are highly encouraged to submit an application. The scholarship funds must be utilized for educational expenses such as tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses at the student’s primary university.

To receive the Generation Google Scholarship for women in computer science, recipients must be enrolled as full-time students during the 2023-2024 academic year. Once winners have been chosen, the university enrollment of each recipient will be verified, and all scholarship payments will be made directly to the student’s educational institution for the purpose of covering tuition fees and other education-related expenses. If a scholarship recipient no longer meets the eligibility criteria, the scholarship award will be withheld. Furthermore, if a scholar fails to maintain their eligibility, their award will be revoked.

  • Instructions on how to receive the scholarship award will be provided by Google to the selected recipients.
  • Failure to complete the required steps by the specified deadline will result in disqualification from receiving the award.
  • Scholarship recipients may be allowed to defer their award payment for up to one (1) year from the originally planned payment date on a case-by-case basis as determined by Google.
  • Google employees are not eligible to apply for the Generation Google Scholarship for Women in Computer Science.
  • Individuals who are (1) residents of embargoed countries, (2) ordinarily residents in embargoed countries, or (3) otherwise prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
